On June 27-30, Klaipeda will become the capital of large sailing ships – “The Tall Ships Races 2021” returns here. Klaipėdos šventės is gathering a team of enthusiastic and energetic volunteers for this exceptional, extraordinary event. While the world is still living in a pandemic mode, event organizers have already developed scenarios for a possible event to ensure maximum security and control of human flows.
The last time The Tall Ships Races sailed in Klaipeda was in the summer of 2017. This time Klaipeda was decorated with more than eighty “The Tall Ships Races 2017” sailing ships. This time, the Lithuanian port city will be the starting point for large sailing races. From Klaipeda, large sailing ships will sail to Turku (Finland), Tallinn (Estonia), Mariehamn (Åland Islands) and finish in Szczecin (Poland).
Volunteers are the key to the success of one of the most anticipated event of the year. During the regatta “The Tall Ships Races 2021”, approximately 100 sailing ships will visit Klaipeda. The port will receive large sailing ships for the fifth time. Volunteers will not only meet the crews of the multinational ships in Klaipeda, but will also have the opportunity to get to know the sea wave. A team of up to 120 volunteers will assist in the sailing race.
Young people from the age of 14 can volunteer. The most important criteria is language skills. The volunteer team will be curated by experienced volunteer leader Mindaugas Rukavičius.
“The world has been living in a difficult, unpredictable and challenging period for more than a year. This is how we live, as event organizers, who monitor and analyze the changing situation on a daily basis, and with The Tall Ships Races we have already identified four possible scenarios that include event plans to ensure safety and regulate the flow of people. However, we believe that the world will soon breathe easier, and all Klaipeda residents and guests will be able to enjoy the world’s great sailing ships, ”says Violeta Ulevičienė, project manager of The Tall Ship Races.
