On April 29, at 3 p.m. the event “Light on Ukraine”, organized by the LCC International University, will take place on the project “Klaipeda – European Youth Capital 2021” Facebook platform. The virtual event will consist of a cultural part, during which it will be possible to get to know the Ukrainian community, living in Klaipeda, better. The selection of volunteers to go to a children’s camp in Ukraine in the summer to work with children from the war zone will also be announced.

Currently there are more than 1500 Ukrainians living in Klaipeda. “With the event “Light on Ukraine”, we seek to draw attention to the Ukrainians living in Klaipeda and their community – to rejoice how they enrich the life of our city,” says Sigita Vaškaitienė, the coordinator of the project’s “Klaipeda – European Youth Capital” platform “Solidarity”.

“The event will be attended not only by the Ukrainian community living in Klaipeda, but also by Ukrainian students who live in Klaipeda during their studies,” adds Aistė Motekaitienė, the representative of the LCC International University.

The event will also feature a documentary “The Carpet” about the war in Ukraine. After the film, there will be a discussion with the film director Nataliia Kiseliova. “The film will help to empathize with the current political situation in Ukraine, to find out what the nation is experiencing, what pains or joys those people bring with them,” says A. Motekaitienė.

Immediately after the discussion, the Red Cross Information Centre will present its activities and explain how it contributes to the integration processes. Alina Birbalaite, Director of the Red Cross, will talk about immigration and adjustment to life in Lithuania.

At the end of the event, a competition will be announced for young people wishing to travel to Ukraine to volunteer at a camp for children from war-affected regions. “We are looking for energetic young people who are able to empathize and who want to help others,” says A. Motekaitienė. The selection will be done through individual interviews.

The event will be broadcasted on “Klaipeda – European Youth Capital 2021” and “LCC International University” Facebook accounts on April 29th. at 3 p.m.
